Watch the Collection

Poetic, expansive and innovative, this week we've opened the vault and shined the light on the significant speeches and performances from our Progressive Rock Inductees. From the '60s through today, the genre has continued to evolve through experimentation and exploration.

Newly released videos include Phish performing "Watcher of the Skies" in honor of Genesis joining the Hall of Fame, Rush's full three-song set including "Tom Sawyer," "Spirit of the Radio" and "2112: Overture" from 2013 and Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" from his 2014 second and solo induction.

Watch all speeches and performances in one video collection.

Developing out of psychedelic rock at the end of the 1960s, the idea of Progressive Rock (known as “Prog Rock” to most fans) was to bring new and expanded musical ideas into rock and roll.

During its long history Prog has generated a certain level of conflict between journalist and critics who describe the style as bloated and self-indulgent, and the diehard fans who listen to every details of the music, follow every aspect of the elaborate stories, and create a positive musical community.

Fantasy is a genre of fiction writing that became popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and has its literary roots in myth and folklore.

Fantasy provides musicians with robust worlds to explore and be inspired by. Characters become real and creatures come alive through “text painting,” musical themes and variations, and soundscapes. A wide range of musical styles have drawn inspiration from fantasy: progressive rock, psychedelic rock, metal, and alternative rock.

Use this playlist to meet legendary characters, wander through magical worlds, and participate in and witness epic battles.
